Dear Hadley-Luzerne Families,

As you may be aware, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor and the President have both declared states of emergency. While it is important to note that there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Hadley-Luzerne School District, based on the recent information provided by the Center for Disease Control, in conjunction with the 31 component school districts of the WSWHE BOCES, the Hadley-Luzerne School District will be canceling classes and all school events starting Monday, March 16, 2020, through Sunday, April 19, 2020.

A district-wide closure means that all Hadley-Luzerne School District activities and events, including sports practices, are canceled until further notice. Given that this is a rapidly evolving public health issue, we feel that this is the most proactive action our district can take to keep our students and staff healthy. This is designed to help limit the spread of illness and to provide time to reassess the situation.

We are mindful that parents and guardians will have questions and concerns. Please be assured that we are working to navigate through this unprecedented situation and we will be able to provide more details as they come. As this unfolds, we will be communicating with families via phone, email, and our district website at

Important items to consider during this time:

Academic Planning

The district will have a Superintendent Conference Day on Monday, March 16, 2020, to give our staff time to create communication patterns with students and parents for their classes. They will also be creating home coursework/activity lesson plans for students. Families should expect to receive more information about staying connected during the closure early next week.

Health and Safety

We recognize that this news will be concerning to many of our students and families. We ask that medical questions be directed to your family doctor/healthcare provider. During the closure, if you or one of your family members tests positive for COVID-19/Coronavirus, please contact the district office and notify public health.

We will be sending information to all families regarding breakfast and lunch provided by the district. The logistics of which are still being decided.

Out of District Placed Students

We will not be transporting private school students and students with special needs whose placement is outside of the district while the district is closed.

Please know, as always, the health and safety of our students and staff is our highest priority, and we will remain vigilant in our efforts to help prevent the spread of this illness.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
